Insta-September

Wow, this month was a blur. It's hard to believe I've been in New Orleans for almost two months! Time flies when you're having fun! Actually, September has been incredibly stressful with school, getting settled in a new city, making new friends, missing old ones, and not really having any time to reflect and adjust.

law books / bourbon street
Beers and Georgia Football / Hurricanes at Pat O's
My life as a law student / care package from the lovely courtney
Abitas and trivia / interesting opinions about law school in the library
Constitution Day lectures / Begniets in Jackson Square
Lunch on the Law Quad / Relaxing with manis and some reading
coffee / again my life as a law student

As you can see, I've been spending an insane amount of time in the library, but I have been able to get out and watch football a bit. Yay for relaxing! How was your September?

Where's the pause button?

Okay, remember when I said law school was totally manageable? Yah, seems like a lifetime ago. The law school gods have decided to test me this week. I would write a laundry list of all the crap I have going on, but I don't have time and y'all don't really care about the individual stupid things I have to do everyday, so I wont. I will say that those professors sure are bringing it, and I am not exactly coming through with flying colors. They always seem to find the ONE THING you missed in the 20 pages you spent 3 hours reading. ALWAYS. I sure would like to find that pause button so I could get some sleep and catch up on all the stuff I have to do!

But please know that I miss you all terribly, and school is stupid. But it's really not. But it is, because it means I don't have enough time in the day anymore to hang with you lovely ladies.

10 days to fall break people. 10 days.

Insta-Life Law School So Far

Hey y'all! So, the initial law school terror I've been experiencing over the last few weeks has started to fade, and dare I say it? I'm actually feeling confident about the work/studying I've been doing. I've officially been a NOLA resident for a month now, and man is it crazy how much your life can change in such a short amount of time! Here's a little peak c/o my instagram of my life in NOLA so far.

After the first week of getting settled, I've pretty much spent 85% of my waking hours somehow related to school. Now I will say, I expected law school to be tough. The subject, the stress, the long hours, the competition, and the constant anxiety about looking like an idiot. Well, two weeks into class and I have to say so far law school hasn't been too bad. If you're not familiar law professors use the Socratic Method to teach you. Essentially they cold call on you and try to make you look like an unprepared idiot. Fun right? This aspect of law school definitely had me the most nervous. Well. I got cold called. At the very beginning of my very first torts class. Honestly, I think that was the scariest moment of my life. My mind went completely blank and my stomach was instantly in my throat. I completely butchered the ruling of the case, which is kind of the point of reading cases, but you know what? I lived. And I realized that it's really not all that bad. And, yeah there are going to be plenty of stress filled days, but there's also plenty of time (for now at least) to have some down time. So yay for that! Now for y'all, hopefully that means you'll actually see me around this here blog more than I thought! And I'll actually have time to read y'alls blogs too!

Wednesday Wants

Alright friends, last night was my first night in a very long time to do some homework. All I can tell you is law school is not going to be a joke. It took me nearly 45 minutes to read one little case 3/4 of a page long and brief it. Starting Monday I'll be reading 40-50 pages of case law per week, per class (all five of em). So... you can do the math. Needless to say I hope you understand some absence around this little bloggy while I get adjusted. For now I'm going to shoot to post MWF with maybe a fun "quoted" post every now and again. But I'm not committing to anything one way or another until I have a better handle on school. But, with that said I do have some pretty back to school "wants."

BIG NEWS

Let me just preface this post by saying, "Happy April Fools Day!" But my announcement is not a trick... though I thought about fooling you.

Today is April 1 aka deposit deadline day for many law schools. I hinted this weekend that I've made a decision, but now I'm ready to let you all know where I'll be spending the next three years of my life...

Yep. I'm heading south to Cajun Country. I'm going deep into the heart of Blue Dog country to New Orleans!

I can't thank y'all enough for taking this journey with me. Reading all of my many posts and tweets about the LSAT, my concerns about where to in these recent weeks. I got so many encouraging emails, tweets and comments from y'all, and I honestly don't know that I could have kept my sanity without y'all.

Now this news is definitely bittersweet. I'm really terribly upset about leaving the district I've called home for the last three plus years, but this is the best fit for me. Plus don't you worry, I plan on returning to DC frequently to visit. I really can't believe that I'm leaving, but I'm going to make the most of the four months I have left here, and I hope you'll join me!

Also... I don't think I read any NOLA blogs. Do you write/read any blogs from down there? I'd love to make a few blog friends before I arrive this summer!

On my mind...

As most of you know, I'm in the throws of deciding where to go to law school. I am often indecisive person when it comes to big life choices, so I can tell y'all I'm absolutely terrified about this decision.

I'm very fortunate that I've been accepted to six pretty great schools, and many of them have given me a considerable amount of financial aid so that's great. But sometimes having options makes things harder. There are so many factors that accompany each school, and multiply that by six (plus five potential additional acceptances), it's becoming a bit overwhelming to say the least. Oh. And I have to decide by April 1.

I'm not quite ready to share what my specific school choices are, but I want to give y'all a few hints. I know that so much of law school will be spent studying, but I'm a city girl and I'm sure I'm going to need some entertainment. So of course I've been doing some research on life in my potential new homes. Some, I know well, others not at all.

So, have any of y'all lived in any of these places? I'd love to hear your perspective? Where should I stay/go for this next step?

Don't worry, I promise to take y'all with me where ever this endeavor may lead.

Life Lately

Hello Hello! Long time no see y'all! I'm back from my whirlwind of a weekend road trip. Let me just tell you it's been a crazy few days.  After Mardi Gras on Friday Night, KJ and BW and I headed down to surprise our favorite food blogger for her 25th birthday! We met up with one of our favorite people aka Cal-Scnie who came down from Connecticut and her brother, and had an absolute blast. Kings, several 40's of High Life and some duct tape are key ingredients for a good night.

Then Sunday the crew headed back to DC, while I was heading further south.

Unfortunately one of my oldest and dearest friends just lost her mom to brain cancer after a long two year battle. The loss was absolutely heartbreaking for Becca, her family and those of us who knew and loved Susan. She was one of the most amazing people I'll probably ever know, and the void she leaves in our lives will surely never be filled, but I'm so glad that I could take a few days off to help remember her and beautiful spirit in Atlanta.

En route to Georgia, I arranged a tour and interview at a law school in Richmond, Virginia. It was very strange being back in class after almost three years, but I'm so excited to go back to school! I absolutely loved Richmond, and could definitely picture spending a few years there. PLUS two of my favorite bloggers live there, so obviously I need to move there and raid their make-up collections.

Next I got in the car and drove South. South. South. I arrived to Atlanta around 6:30 on Monday night, and was gone again by 4:30 Tuesday afternoon. It was nice to be back "home" but of course the reason for the visit was not.

Tuesday night I made it to Greensboro, NC where I grabbed a hotel room and crashed for the night. Conveniently another law school I applied to is located in Greensboro, so I spent the morning touring the school and the downtown area.

Then I was on the road again, but road fatigue was definitely setting in. The brilliant Lauren had the idea to meet for a late lunch in Petersburg, VA at this cute little pub. If you're ever in the area, I would highly recommend stopping! The menu was great. I had an amazing chicken salad sandwich, Lauren had bacon and  brie, and Jason had a really fantastic burger. Done.

Finally we got back on the road for the FINAL stretch. I made it home in the heart of rush hour (good planning on my part) and unpacked.

Then I had one of the best nights EVER! I got an email promptly at 9:30 pm notifying me I had been accepted to Law School! Ironically the very one I had visited that morning! I screamed. Did a happy dance and promptly bought myself a gorgeous new Kate Spade bag big enough for plenty of law books.

It was perfect. Now I'm back to work and ready to get back to normal after the whirlwind of this last month.

PS, don't forget to enter my mardi gras giveaway! It ends tonight!!!
