Quoted: Treat Yo Self

I'm sorry for being so MIA this week y'all! I'm on fall break, so no class all week. Yay for breaks right? Wrong. I've started the oh so fun process of outlining and realized that I really had no idea what I was doing the first few weeks of school. Briefs are terrible, my class notes are worse. It's all so fun realizing your hard work, late nights and stress filled mornings were essentially for nothing. Yay. Anyways. Today I'm actually taking a half day away from law school for a little me time. I'm going to get a fancy latte with some kind of swirly design in the foam, then head downtown for my hair appointment. A girl's got to keep up the impression that she's a natural blonde right? Then I'm going to hit the nail salon for a pedicure.
Then.... it's back to that silly law library.

Currently

Reading: A Modern American Approach to Civil Procedure before class starts. I didn't read it very well last night. woops.

Drinking: a Starbucks triple shot skim latte. yum.

Listening: to the Kane Show on iHeart radio. I missed my morning show!

Watching: people slowly trickle in to class.

Thinking: how glad I am this week was easy after the last few crazy ones.

Wishing: Fall break would hurry up and get here so I can get out and enjoy the "cooler" weather set to hit the town this weekend! Yay for 70's!!!

Loving: That fall break is less than 36 hours away.

Today's going to be a long one, with four classes but a break is insight and my triple shot latte is definitely helping me get there. What are you doing currently?

Insta-September

Wow, this month was a blur. It's hard to believe I've been in New Orleans for almost two months! Time flies when you're having fun! Actually, September has been incredibly stressful with school, getting settled in a new city, making new friends, missing old ones, and not really having any time to reflect and adjust.

law books / bourbon street
Beers and Georgia Football / Hurricanes at Pat O's
My life as a law student / care package from the lovely courtney
Abitas and trivia / interesting opinions about law school in the library
Constitution Day lectures / Begniets in Jackson Square
Lunch on the Law Quad / Relaxing with manis and some reading
coffee / again my life as a law student

As you can see, I've been spending an insane amount of time in the library, but I have been able to get out and watch football a bit. Yay for relaxing! How was your September?

Where's the pause button?

Okay, remember when I said law school was totally manageable? Yah, seems like a lifetime ago. The law school gods have decided to test me this week. I would write a laundry list of all the crap I have going on, but I don't have time and y'all don't really care about the individual stupid things I have to do everyday, so I wont. I will say that those professors sure are bringing it, and I am not exactly coming through with flying colors. They always seem to find the ONE THING you missed in the 20 pages you spent 3 hours reading. ALWAYS. I sure would like to find that pause button so I could get some sleep and catch up on all the stuff I have to do!

But please know that I miss you all terribly, and school is stupid. But it's really not. But it is, because it means I don't have enough time in the day anymore to hang with you lovely ladies.

10 days to fall break people. 10 days.

Wednesday Wants

I'm absolutely loving the pleather trend this fall. I'm thinking a black pleather a-line skirt would be a perfect addition to my closet. One's a splurge, one's a major save. Which do you like better?

Moroccan Mix up

Happy Monday Hope y'all had a fabulous weekend! Mine was great. Too short, but great. Over the next few weeks I want to share with y'all some of my inspiration for my new place here in New Orleans. Oh, and how convenient is it the polyvore added a home section last month? Loving it!!!

Moroccan Mix up

Table lamp / H M throw pillow, $6.39 / Fabric bed frame / Regina-Andrew Design metal accent table / Rug / Jiti linen throw pillow

Now, this is where I wanted to go with my bedroom. Grey headboard, white bedding, gold accents and maybe a pop of color with the pillows.

Not exactly the direction I went, but I'm still loving this look!

We've made it to Thursday, and I actually took the night off from Law School last night. Reason enough to celebrate if you ask me.

When DC Hurts

I hurt too.

The tragedy at Navy Yard yesterday is absolutely beyond words. I'm hurting for my city today. Stay safe DC. I miss you.

Color Crush: Samba

For the next installment of color crush I decided to full on embrace fall with this gorgeous samba color. Now it hurts my soul to say that, because this is basically Alabama red, but it's still pretty, so I'll those crimson tide fans out there... I'll admit it. You have a good color.

Samba

I've decided that I need that scarf, and the bag? Yes please

Currently

Watching: The clouds go by from inside the law library. Where I have spent the last four Sundays. Oh and every week day since school started. I'm beginning to feel like I live here.

Reading: Contracts for class tomorrow. Are moral obligations sufficient consideration to bind a contract? Fascinating stuff. (but actually I am really fascinated by it. #lawnerd)

Listening: to my Mozart radio on Spotify. I've decided that listening to classical music in the big fancy law library makes me feel more important. And when I need a break from that I switch over to some Robin Thicke. Love me some Blurred Lines.

Feeling: Tired. Anxious. Overwhelmed. Confident. You name it, I'm probably feeling it. Law School has been an emotional roller coaster, let me tell you.

Drinking: Venti iced coffee. Extra shot of espresso. One splenda. Splash of half and half.

Planning: On attempting to finish the discussion portion of my first memo by Wednesday at  2 pm so I can get comments on it. I don't think I've ever been this nervous about a 7 page paper in my life.

Loving: That my lovely friend Courtney sent me a law school care package this week. It was beyond sweet and I really needed a pick me up. Slash I ate the entire giant kit kat bar for dinner last night. So that was awesome. Thanks again love!

Friday's Fancies: Football Fashion

Is anyone else doing a little happy dance because it's Friday? Man let me tell you, these weeks certainly feel long and unfortunately I'm in for a very long weekend of work. I signed up for this right? Oh yep, I certainly did.  Thankfully there's no UGA game this weekend, so I wont miss much spending the weekend in the law library. But if I was going to a game this weekend, I'd definitely be wearing this gorgeous dress.

gameday

Perfect right! I definitely need to remember this one. Anyways, hope y'all have a fabulous weekend!

After you hit publish...

So I saw this on pinterest today and I just had to share it with y'all. This is a great reminder to all of us that blogging is about so much more than putting words on a page. I definitely need to focus on these steps a little more.

Sorry for the slow blog week over here. But I promise to be back with a Friday's Fancies Post tomorrow. Happy Thursday!

Color Crush: Carafe

There's something about fall that just makes a girl want to shop. All the pretty fall foliage perhaps? The annual ritual of back to school shopping? Sure. Well, this girl has definitely been lusting after a few fall hues I'd like to add to my closet. A while back I bookmarked the 2013 fall color lineup from pantone, and now I'm ready to get shopping and to share some of my favorites with y'all

First up, Carafe. What could be more perfect for fall than a rich warm coffee brown? Nothing, that's what. I'm kind of obsessed with the possibilities of pairing this gorgeous color with emerald, magenta and some of the other hues I've added to wardrobe this year.  So without further adieu, my carafe crushes.

Color Crush Carafe

I had to throw in a little leopard for good measure. Hope y'all don't mind too much. I'm completely obsessed with those booties and would LOVE to add them to my shoe collection. and that dress? UH MAZ ING.

Now what carafe wear are you crushing this fall?

Friday Fancies: Transitioning to Fall

While it still feels like the height of summer down here in New Orleans I'm told fall is on it's way... one day. Fall was one of my favorite things about living in DC and I'm already missing pulling out my scarves in preparation for those crisp fall days. So those of you in a more northern locale get to transition your summer pieces to fall, I'll still be here, rocking in the Louisiana heat.
seasons

I've been obsessing over the return of the denim jacket for fall, and those gorgeous riding boots and some opaque patterned tights? Perfect!!!

Alright gals, I hope y'all have a fabulous weekend! I cannot believe I've made it through two whole weeks of law school! Ready for a break this weekend FOR SURE.

Insta-Life Law School So Far

Hey y'all! So, the initial law school terror I've been experiencing over the last few weeks has started to fade, and dare I say it? I'm actually feeling confident about the work/studying I've been doing. I've officially been a NOLA resident for a month now, and man is it crazy how much your life can change in such a short amount of time! Here's a little peak c/o my instagram of my life in NOLA so far.

After the first week of getting settled, I've pretty much spent 85% of my waking hours somehow related to school. Now I will say, I expected law school to be tough. The subject, the stress, the long hours, the competition, and the constant anxiety about looking like an idiot. Well, two weeks into class and I have to say so far law school hasn't been too bad. If you're not familiar law professors use the Socratic Method to teach you. Essentially they cold call on you and try to make you look like an unprepared idiot. Fun right? This aspect of law school definitely had me the most nervous. Well. I got cold called. At the very beginning of my very first torts class. Honestly, I think that was the scariest moment of my life. My mind went completely blank and my stomach was instantly in my throat. I completely butchered the ruling of the case, which is kind of the point of reading cases, but you know what? I lived. And I realized that it's really not all that bad. And, yeah there are going to be plenty of stress filled days, but there's also plenty of time (for now at least) to have some down time. So yay for that! Now for y'all, hopefully that means you'll actually see me around this here blog more than I thought! And I'll actually have time to read y'alls blogs too!

August Birchbox

I can't believe it's been a whole month since the last subscription box link up! August just absolutely flew by. My August Birchbox was a great one!

My absolute favorite find in the box was the Stila stay all day liquid lipstick.  This stuff is absolutely awesome. Mine is this crazy bright brick red called "Tesoro" but it comes in a whole bunch of other colors too. The coverage is matte and dries in seconds. It survives drinks and eating (though you may need a touch up to two).

Next up, the Whish Deodorant Swipes with Hair Inhibitor. These are handy little deodorant wipes which are super convenient and they smell lovely. I really like the concept of this product because we all know there are days where our deodorant doesn't quite cut it, but who wants to carry a whole stick of deodorant in their purse? Not me. Needless to say this is a great idea, my only qualm is that they are a tad to expensive for me to justify in my law student budget.
Whish Exfoliating Body Wash is a gentle exfoliant with sugar cane and oatmeal extracts. It smells great and isn't too rough. This would be a perfect pre-sunless tanning body wash.

Next up a product I've been dying to try. The KMS California Freeshape Hairspray. As a self proclaimed hairspray addict I've been intrigued by the idea of a pre-dry hairspray. Essentially you spray it on damp hair before you blowdry and you won't need any hairspray afterwards. It protects your hair against heat, and it's non-aerosol so yay for saving the environment! The hold is definitely loose, but I can tell a major difference as opposed to just using my normal heat protectant!
Finally, the OC8 Professional Mattifying Gel. Did you know in a previous time in my life I worked for a dermatologist? Well I did. It was just a summer gig, but I got to know quite a bit about the products she sold. One was this OC8 gel. So it is most definitely a professional mattifying gel. Unfortunately, I didn't have great success with it. I know when I tried it in the past it was GREAT, but this time around I didn't really have ANY mattifying results beyond my normal primer/foundation/powder.

So, that's it for my August Birchbox! Don't forget to visit all the other lovely ladies in the link up!

Happy Labor Day!

Hope you are all taking a break! Unfortunately I'll be laboring in the library over my law books, but I'm still enjoying having an extra day in my weekend!

SHOP: Walgreens Healthcare Clinic and the saga to fix my ankle...

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias and their client.

So, do y'all remember right before I moved to New Orleans I sprained my ankle when I was running some errands. Well I'm a whole four days into Law School and I'm already crafting a negligence suit against said store... I can see it in the law books decades from now. Law Student slipped on lettuce in the grocery store, sues for punitive damages and wins a million dollars. Totally right? Anyways, I digress. It's been a few weeks now and my ankle still isn't 100%, so I decided to head over to the Walgreen's clinic to get one of their providers to take a look.

The Walgreen's healthcare clinic is awesome! So easy, so fast (which is key for all of us these days), and did I mention it was inexpensive. I was in and out for $25 plus they gave me some free bandages for my foot!

All you have to do is walk in during normal clinic hours, and use the handy kiosk to schedule your appointment! You can see them for general wellness, illness prevention or even minor injuries like mine.

Then you wait either in the little seating area or you could go shopping and the page you! I'll give you one guess as to which one I chose.

I was in and out of the clinic in 10 minutes with my recommend course of treatment (rest, ice, compression and elevation or RICE if you're curious)

You can pay with any major credit card which is nice... and did I mention you can peruse the beauty aisle on your way out? Love it.

The Walgreens Healthcare Clinic is awesome for a busy student like me. They respected my time and are open longer hours which is way more convenient. I don't have a primary care physician, but get what? You don't need one. Which is even better because I'm new to the area and haven't had a chance to set up regular doctors appointments. I'll most definitely be dropping by again for a flu shot, or even a minor cough or cold. Flu season is not that far away, so we all need to take care of ourselves now, and with a Walgreen's in every neighborhood you really have no excuse anymore.

Monogram Swap Reveal!

A while back two of my favorite Georgia bloggers Sara and Nicole, (y'all know I have many) decided to host a monogram swap! I feel like back in the good ole days of blogging everyone and her sister used to do swaps, now it's all about the giveaways, but I digress. Like the good southern girl that I I love monograms, so I immediately signed up. Lucky for me I got paired with the lovely Nicole herself! Now I felt like Nicole and I knew each other pretty well before the swap, but her gifts to me only made me love our friendship more! So with out further adieu here's my swap reveal!

She know's I'm a Georgia girl at heart, though I may live far away from my home state. Accordingly she got me this FABULOUS koozie (girlfriend knows I love koozies too!) not only with my monogram, but with my home state as well! How much do you love this??

Perfection right? I absolutely love it, and it will most certainly be coming with me to watch the UGA Clemson game on Saturday night.

Next up Nicole tried to get me a little something to help me settle into my new environment here in New Orleans. If y'all don't already know the fleur de lis is kind of the unofficial symbol of New Orleans. Seriously, they're EVERYWHERE down here! In that tradition she got me an adorable hat (and it's gray! love it!!!) with my monogram intertwined with the fleur de lis!

So thoughtful right? Plus little did that lovely lady know I have QUICKLY evolved into a wardrobe of yoga pants, Old Navy tees and hats! First year law students don't have time to blow dry their hair! duh.  Thanks so much again love!!!

Game Day Ready

Happy Monday y'all! Today is my first official day as a law student! I have my first two classes today, and oh my goodness, the first attempts at homework have been a little more work than I anticipated! But what's getting me through this week you ask? My excitment for SATURDAY and the start of college football season. In my family though this is big game. My alma mater The University of Georgia is heading to take on Clemson University where my sister, both my parents and my grandfather went. #familyrivalry. I'm pretty sure the dawgs are going to take this one, but just incase I'll need a proper gameday look to wear to the UGA bar here in New Orleans. This is what I'm thinking

gameday ready

Perfect right? I'm kind of obsessed with that dress, and will NEED to add it to my closet ASAP.

Thanks again to all of you for your love and support through this crazy process that is the beginning of my first year of law school! Hope I see you soon! Go Dawgs!

Friday's Fancies: Back to School Style

Apparently my blog has turned into all things back to school style lately. I have to say these last few days in Louisiana have been miserably hot and humid. I love the idea of this outfit, but there is NO way I'll be wearing layers any time soon!

Wednesday Wants

Alright friends, last night was my first night in a very long time to do some homework. All I can tell you is law school is not going to be a joke. It took me nearly 45 minutes to read one little case 3/4 of a page long and brief it. Starting Monday I'll be reading 40-50 pages of case law per week, per class (all five of em). So... you can do the math. Needless to say I hope you understand some absence around this little bloggy while I get adjusted. For now I'm going to shoot to post MWF with maybe a fun "quoted" post every now and again. But I'm not committing to anything one way or another until I have a better handle on school. But, with that said I do have some pretty back to school "wants."

Back To School Chic

Well folks, today is the first day of my law school life. My week long orientation started today and I have to say I'm pretty darn excited. I've already made a few friends, discovered a few new restaurants, and found that there are 7 different coffee shops in a 6 block radius of my house. Y'all know how happy that makes me!

As we all know first impressions are super important and with a business casual dress code this is what I'm thinking for my law school debut.

I picked up a cute black and white tee at LOFT in Atlanta a few weeks ago. I think it will pair perfectly with my blue pencil skirt, black flats and maybe a cardigan in case it gets a little chilly inside all day. Of course for accessories I'll bring my big gold watch and maybe pearls? Classic, simple, chic and easy.

As for the hair and makeup I'm thinking loosely curled hair (hoping it makes it through the Louisiana humidity), a red lip and a lightly colored brown on the eyes.

What do y'all think? I promise to post an #lotd on instagram at some point.

PS. Happy Birthday Callie!!! Hope you have a fabulous day!

Thursday Randoms

Well hello there! Long time no see! I'm slowly getting settled here in New Orleans and have been wrapped up in a world of spending money, getting lost and seemingly endless boxes. But guess what? I'm absolutely loving it. I can't tell y'all how much I love having a walk in closet and my own bathroom. It's WONDERFUL after a few years of sharing bathrooms and living with clothing racks in my room.

I've been gone from DC for about two weeks, and to catch you up quickly here are the highlights of the last 10 days.

  • Sprained my ankle the day before moving. The universe decided to beat up on me.
  • 2 yellow jacket stings. Again, I angered the universe.
  • 1 flat tire. Are you getting the drift?
  • 2 wonderful nights in Athens catching up with old friends in my old college town.
  • 5 awesome days in Atlanta with my the dash of soul team.
  • 1200+ miles in the car.
  • And about a million margaritas at Tin Lizzy's. #RoughLife
So now you're all caught up! But goodness knows I can't write a Thursday Random's post without pictures!

Can't wait to share more of what I've been up to in New Orleans! Orientation starts on Monday!

Friday's Fancies: Rainbow Sherbet

Happy Friday Friends! I'm hanging out in Atlanta and having a fabulous time hanging in my hometown. Last night we had a slumber party with my favorite 10 year old and she helped me cultivate today's look. This week our #FF theme is summer treats, and I only had to think for about 3 seconds for my favorite summer treat. Rainbow Sherbet! Duh. So we took the treat theme quite literally and cultivated the most colorful outfit ever! Hey, if you can't wear this when you're ten you'll probably never wear it right?

Rainbow Sherbet

Amazing right? While you probably will never see me rocking this combo of colors it's the best of the best for that preteen in your life. Wish me luck heading to NOLA tomorrow!

July Birchbox

Well hello there, y'all didn't think I would miss my favorite monthly link up did you? We all know I love my subscription boxes, and I'm a birchbox faithful (nearly 2 and a half years strong!). So, without further adieu, here is my July box, don't forget to link up with the lovely ladies below.

Caldrea Lotion: Love this stuff, smells yummy like it's right out of the spa. Long lasting moisture. Great overall, but still too pricey for me to justify. Would be a great present for someone though!

I.C.O.N India Oil: I still go back and forth on the hair oils, but this one has been a lifesaver for my ends. My stylist even commented on how good my ends look 10 weeks after my last cut! Not a ton of scent (which I like), a little goes a VERY long way. Make sure to use it on your ends first! I like using about a dimes worth on wet hair, then even less after a blowout just to smooth some flyaways.

Model and Co Lipstick: I absolutely LOVE this lipstick. I have peony and it's a gorgeous bright pink! I've vowed to be that girl in law school with the pink lipstick (I'm weird, I know) and this one will definitely come with me on my first day. Stays put for HOURS.

Birchbox Bobby Pins: I'm absolutely obsessed with these giant bobby pins! First of all they are SO cute, but then they work like a dream to! They are a little hard to "open" but c'est la vie.

Dr. Jart+  Ceramidin Cream: This stuff is supposed to have cult following for dry skin. This time of year dryness isn't really an issue for me, but I do have a few eczema patches and this stuff made them disappear in 2-3 days. I'm definitely holding on to this beauty come winter.

So were you happy with your box this month? I know I was! Don't forget to link up and share the love with the other gals!

Be Back Soon....

I have a few posts scheduled over the next two weeks, but as I'm moving and traveling my internet access is limited, so bare with me. Don't fret though, I'm always active on the instagram. Have a great week y'all!

Closing a Chapter

This post is a little heavy and personal, if you're here for the usual Friday's Fancies come back next week. Otherwise I commend you for indulging my need to document this major moment.

I can't believe it, but the day is finally here. Today is my last day at work, tomorrow morning I pack the car and begin the trek to Louisiana. As I've been wrapping up my life in DC I can't help but feel a pang of sadness at the closing of another chapter of my life.

It has been a dream of mine to live in DC since I visited the first time with my Dad at 9 years old. Coming back for Obama's first inauguration in 2009 only solidified my hopes to one day make this city my home. A mere 6 months later I was back for an internship, and less than 6 months after that I made this city my home. Though I didn't arrive for good until age 21, I feel that this town is really where I "grew up" or rather, where I grew into an adult. I'm sure all of you know the feeling, those first few years out of college are pretty tough, but I've made it through and I'm so glad I did it in this city.

At one point DC almost broke me. I almost gave up. After a year of being verbally abused nine hours a day by our wonderful constituents, we lost our election and I was laid off.  Being laid off less than a year after starting my job was tough, but when the months of networking and endless hours writing cover letters weren't paying off it got tougher.  I was rejected from four different positions in 24 hours, I was going into debt, and babysitting odd jobs in attempts to support myself but it wasn't working, I was overwhelmed and then you kicked me in the ass with a parking ticket. Looking back now it seems silly that a $100 parking ticket send me spiraling like it did, but I let my self utterly fall apart that night. But somehow I got through the weekend. Monday morning I woke up bound and determined that I wasn't going down like that, my dreams were not going to be dashed so easily, and you know what? They weren't. Two weeks later I had a great job, I built myself back up and I took on new challenges like an old pro.

While growing into an adult here has been hard, it's also been wonderful. In the world of politics DC often has negative connotations, but those of us who make this city our home know there is so much more to this city than our divisive politics. The diversity of this city pervades all aspects of the culture. The food, the people, the history, this city always has something new and exciting to offer. The beauty of the Capitol building often takes my breath away, and I'll always appreciate my time working in the halls of Congress.  Lazy weekend days spent at Eastern Market have been a favorite past time, as have the nights on H Street, and the weekends playing tourist. I met some amazing people who are going to accomplish some amazing things. I worked harder and learned more than I thought I could. Most importantly, I discovered a deep love for a good Gin and Tonic at happy hour.

Not only am I leaving this wonderful city behind, but I'm leaving some amazing friends. My two lovely roommates have been an amazing support system for me over the last few years, and I really couldn't ask for better friends. I'll miss you girls more than you know. KJ--- our morning rides to the hill have often been a high point in my day. I'll miss starting my day with our shared laughter at the inappropriateness of the Kane Show, the unpredictable DC traffic and your contagious good moods. BW--- I cannot really fathom life without you down the hall. You've always been there, every day, for the last 14 years. We've basically walked the same path since 6th grade, and for the first time ever our lives are going in different directions. While I can't help but be excited for this next stage, for both of us, it's bittersweet. I miss you both (and Oliver) already.

As I pack up and move on, I'm closing the chapter on this defining few years of my life. I came to DC with a naive dream to change the world and help people. Now I leave with the best memories, matured to what "real life" is like and a plan to change the world and help people.

DC. Thank you. I'll see you in 2016.

July Recap

I can't believe July is really over! Summer is quickly coming to a close and I'm only 48 hours away from a major move! July was a great last month in DC, jam packed with good food (probably too much but oh so worth it), good friends and lots of packing.
pool time on the roof / pretty plants
obsessing over purple nails / amazing roasted chicken pizza with cherries
best bloody marys in NOLA / an array of pretty summer scarves
LOTD's / coffee
blogger brunch salads / ham and cheese croissants
the open road / and lots and lots of lavender

How was your July?
